For many products, standard design practices are usually enough to handle any requirements for electromagnetic compatibility.
This can be true for devices that are NOT mission-critical.
Still, FCC restrictions on radiated emissions apply to ALL devices.
We are always taking EMC into consideration.
We design products to work 100% of the time, especially when they are placed in an unexpected environment that has extreme temperatures, electrical fields, or some other type of disturbance.
OLED screens won’t glitch next to EMI sources like electric motors.
Wireless comms still work around microwaves or other interference.
Devices can handle strong ESD pulses, especially in the winter.
Electrical outlet devices withstand nearby lightning strike events.
We do internal testing BEFORE going to the lab.
It can save a lot of time and money to do pre-compliance measurements of the device prior to sending it to the lab.
We identify problem areas and fix them and this prevents failure.
Why pay for a second test? Just get it right the first time!
